This particular S1000R is the top of the line 2016 model with all the factory options and around 1200km on the odometer. On first impression, it is a little odd looking with a left headlight looking like a boxer that’s taken a few too many right hooks. But everything, as oddly placed and proportioned as it is, has a place and a function. What shall we call this oddball?…

Hit the road at 4:30 and sailed down the coast along the Seisho bypass with a brightening sky out over Sagami Bay. Climbed into the hills up the super green summer orchard roads.

Not often a bike rolls over 200,000miles (320,000kilometres). Even rarer for all that riding to be under one rider. Similarly rare is a visit to the production line that pumped out the bike, especially when it’s a Yamaha FJR!

Having ridden coast to coast several different ways, endured some expressway marathons, scrabbled over and around a surfeit of crumbling mountain passes and even risked life and limb on a frozen northern adventure, the bar was just about high enough for one of those ‘…one day…’ rides. Yep, it was about time for a whopper.

Dec. 2012
Well, where to start?
Where can you tour in December? No…Where does one want to tour in December? Mmm,… Where does someone like JamesK go touring in December? Better but… Where shouldn’t one go touring in December? Yep, that’ll about do it!

Last minute, got fired up after an odd day at work and decided on a night run. Ended up hitting the road alone at 9:30pm.
Being chilly out with winter creeping in and sub 10°C showing for the hills, decided to don some heat. Yep, time to drag the Powerlet heated liner and gloves out of summer hibernation. Dig how easy this gear is. No maintenance and always ready.
